But I do have the essential and really the process is pretty simple once you get used to the chalk pastels. I love them because it's easy to use them to create a moody scene that is also full of light.
The trick with pastels used as I did is to think of your background as the backbone of your drawing. In this instance I chose acrylic paint and only 2 colors. I chose dark colors so that the pastels would really shine. Be careful if you use a medium that is not permanent for your background such as watercolor or distress stain: you're going to have to spray your finished artwork quite a bit to fix the pastels and your background could reactivate. Which could also be an awesome effect by the way.
Once my background was dry I drew the outline with the yellow pastel. Pastels are very easy to erase and it is easy to make changes.
